“Marie Antoinette is an enjoyable exploration into a perspective of privilege, and there is definitely no better time, or place for that matter, to stage such a play.”

David Adjmi is very clear: Marie Antoinette ‘isn’t a history play and it isn’t contemporary; it exists in its own universe with its own idiom.’ With this in mind, I was inspired to approach Marie Antoinette through the 'idiom' of modern discussions around nepotism, privilege, and the idealisation of the 'model/nepo baby' figure in media.
I focused on excess and opulence in both the production design and performance, embracing the fast-paced, witty dialogue with the goal of creating a production that at once enthralled the audience with its aesthetics while also pointing out how such a lifestyle comes at the expense and exclusion of others.
